Being openminded. Delving into other interestes instead of being obessed with one thing. Trying no matter how scared you are. Being honest with others and yourself. Understanding how film is an art. Listening. Believing you can do anything with a little hard wokr. Believing in me. Film theory. The idea that MA's are just as cool as MFA's. Secure filmmakers. Constructive criticism.

Christina Hodel’s interest in entertainment began long ago when she made her stage début at age 9 as Elf #1 in the 5th grade play at Stephen Foster Elementary School. Since then Christina has been fortunate enough to have over a decade-long career as a professional actress and singer in many plays, musicals, films and commercials. Her work has included acting in such films along side Tom Arnold or for such notables as Jerry Bruckheimer. Recent credits include Without A Trace for CBS, Joan of Arcadia also for CBS, 7th Heaven for the WB, Gilmore Girls for the WB as well as commercial work for ‘Taco Bell’ and ‘Palm Pilot’ among others. Most recently she was commissioned to sing for 8 performances at the Metropolitan Opera House for American Ballet Theater’s rendition of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Despite her successful career as an actress and singer Christina has and always will be a creative storyteller communicating through dance and especially filmmaking.
As a dancer Christina is trained in tap, jazz, ballet, modern, lyrical and pointe. She has studied at Ballet Pacifica Conservatory, Westside Academy of Dance, Alvin Ailey and others. She currently dances in New York at Steps on Broadway, Broadway Dance Center, Paul Taylor and Joffrey Ballet School. In addition she has attended numerous training programs including those with such notable companies as Paul Taylor, Joe Goode Performance Group, Diavolo Dance Theater and Troika Ranch Digital Dance Theater. She was a member of the world-touring song and dance troupe ‘The Young Americans’ and has danced on television, live theater, industrials and competitions where she has won awards totaling over $2,000. She has taught throughout Southern California and was most recently awarded an Arts Bridge Scholarship for Dance for her work in reconstructing historical dances and teaching them to underprivileged inner-city-youth in Los Angeles County.
Ms. Hodel’s true love however is filmmaking. Currently Christina is in her final year of graduate school at New York University where she is majoring in an interdisciplinary degree covering both dance and film through Tisch School of the Arts and the Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Her graduate thesis is a focus on the evolving genre of tap dance on film.
Ms. Hodel’s career in film received its foundation at California State University, Long Beach where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2006—four years after alumnus Steven Spielberg. At Cal State Long Beach Christina made over eight films and a television commercial and crewed on over 40 productions. One of her thesis films sponsored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association—Chamaedorea Don—played at the Short Film Corner at the Festival de Cannes this past May. As a filmmaker Christina has won various awards for her artistic work including The Richard and Johanna Baker Award, The George Lucas Award, The Dean’s Scholarship at New York University and many others.
Christina has had substantial experience in the industry after interning with Zanuck Passon and Pace Agency, NBC/Universal, The Los Angeles Film Festival and most recently American Pavilion Student Filmmaker Program at the Festival de Cannes. Working with American Pavilion’s Adobe Student Filmmaker Program Christina was chosen out of nearly a thousand applicants to write and direct a documentary film about the festival—the film won second place in Adobe’s Filmmaker Competition.
Christina is set to direct a documentary about the non-profit organization ‘International House, New York’ this fall and looks forward to graduating with her Master’s degree May 2008. Demo reel available upon request.
