Gregory Singer
Consider that 20x zoom isn't really that useful unless you're on sticks. How often will you really use it? I find that lenses aren't WIDE enough and for most shows end up putting on a WA lens. The HMC150 is... more

    andy_apa
Thanks for your input, man! I was leaning more towards that HMC150 anyways... I consulted a few buddies and we agreed on the same thing you mentioned about the zoom. Realisticlly, I don't think I'll ever use it that much,... more

Who'd ve thunk it!

  • Hey everybody,

So, I've been on the search for a digital camcorder for some time now... I've been planning to buy one for a while. And I had no idea it would be this stressful. Knowing is a burden somtimes, i believe. I mean I made my research before I ventured on to looking for one, you know... what should I consider, what should be of more importance and stuff like that. And I found some great instructive articles here and there. I thought I was on it... TOO EASY, I said!

Well, I guess I really didn't know what I was in for. Some had great features, others not so great. Some were affordable, others didn't quite match up to features it brought. But none was perfect... You know, none of the camera had exactly what I was looking for. So it came down to a give up decision. Yes, give up: do I give up storing media for zoom, do I give up lens quality for such and such. ARGGGG I'm going to have to have a personal chat with all the main brand's company comitees to see how come none of them had the perfect camcorder for digital filmmakers at the affordable price. LOL If that were only true!

So after my strenuos research and many days of headaches, I've come down to a couple of options. And those are a Canon XH-A1s and a Panasonic AG-HMC150. The difference being one of them can record videos on a SD/SDHC card and the other one can't. The let down being you have to give up 20X zoom and settle for 13X. Besides a few small extra features that Canon throws in on that model.

I've still haven't made a purchase yet. But I'm leaning more towards Panasonic. Even though I'm more of a Canon fan, the ability of recording onto an SD card, for me personally, it's very important. But the idea of giving up so much optical zoom kills me. In the end I guess, the decision will make itself!
