Sound Bite

I would like to pass this story on and see what others have come up with when capturing foley for film. We had a scene with a couple of actors punching each other and one having his arm twisted back far enough to break it. We recorded several sounds and the two that came out on top for the job was the punch was a roll of paper dropped onto a stage weight. This produced a real nice sound after a little tweaking in Sound Forge. The next sound was the arm being twisted back, for this we took a piece of bamboo and gave it a twist. This also made a realistic bone breaking sound.

Happy sound hunting!

foley recordings
In your search for foley sounds, do you also use purchased sound effects? I guess creating a sound on-site is better, but I purchased a large sound effects library and tend to comb through that first. Just wondering what others do. In production with my second film soon, a feature-length comedy, and sure I'm going to be needing foley sound in post production. The recorded stuff was great for the live stage version of the same script, although my director tended to drop any pre-recorded sound if he could get the actors to make the sound live on stage.
