About Me
Director/producer/cinematographerInsight Films tG, New Delhi, India.
I am an independent filmmaker, with a background in Gender and Development Studies.
My independent film ‘Orange Alert’ on pesticide poisoning and the organic farmers movement in Thailand, won the Juror’s Special Prize at Earth Vision – the 15th Global Environmental Film Festival in Tokyo, Japan in 2007, and has been screened in numerous festivals in India and abroad.
My film work has focused on various subjects including pesticide poisoning, HIV/AIDS, the media representation of older people, eco-tourism, violence against women and primary education. Some of my work was produced for HelpAge International and Young Asia TV (Colombo).
I made a series of films for OxfamGB for the ‘We Can End Violence Against Women Campaign’ in India.
My film ‘Young Hopes in Elderly Arms’ was selected for screening at the XV International AIDS Conference in Bangkok, Thailand.
My earlier work is set in Thailand and South-east Asia where I lived for eleven years.
‘White Robes, Saffron Dreams’, an independent film on the discriminatory treatment of women in Thai Theravada Buddhism premiered at the London Feminist Film Festival and won the First Prize: Documentary section, Central Illinois Feminist Film Festival, USA.
I am currently working on a film on gender and sexuality in early and contemporary Buddhism in India, and shooting for a project in Uttar Pradesh, India.
