The use of color gel
I don't really know if this is a good topic to start with but... well, I'm very interested in what you can do with color gels. I usually read that cinematographers use CTO, CTB and some CTS, but can we acheive something different using other colors? Like the ones they use for stage lighting for theatres...

What do you think?

Color Gels
I work at my campus television station and we use color gels in the background lights for a accent color. We don't put them on the actors at all. We tried once, it looked freaky!

What I would love to know is....
If you are using film right! and you light a scene do you shoot the gray card before setting colors on the light.

Absolutely.

It all depends upon the effect you're looking for(the further from the 'natural' colors, the more dreamlike the image will be).

Think of Dario Argento and his use of pinks, for instance.

Soft warm tones are the most forgiving(straw. chocolate) but feel free to experiment with whatever strikes your fancy.

Princess and the Warrior, Amelie, Fight Club - all very stylized in terms of color.
