    FADE IN:

    INT. ADELE’S BEDROOM - MID-DAY

ADELE, eight years old, prime and proper, sits at a small

table morosely playing tea party with various dolls and

    stuffed toys.

Adele’s mother, TRISHA, an upper-middle-class housewife,

walks by Adele’s door and stops. She peeps in and watches the

girl for a moment before walking in.

    TRISHA

Hey Hun. It’s tea time, I see.

Trisha walks over and sits across from the girl at the little

table. Adele continues to slowly pretend to pour tea into

    cups.

    ADELE

Do you want some tea, Mommy?

    TRISHA

Sure. But make mine a Long Island

    Iced.

Adele smile faintly and shakes her head.

    ADELE

    Mommy.

    TRISHA

    What’s wrong with you? Normally,

    you love that joke.

    ADELE

    I’m just bored. I wish I had

    something new to play with.

    TRISHA

What’s wrong with that? You just

    got it two days ago?

Trisha points off camera to the other side of the room.

    ADELE

    I don’t like it. It’s a gross ol’

    boy toy.

    TRISHA

But hun, that’s exactly what you

    asked for.

Adele looks behind her in the direction Trisha pointed

    earlier.

    ADELE

I know... But, it smells kinda

    funny. And it’s so ugly.

Adele makes a horrible face before looking at her Mother

straight in the eyes with a pleading look.

Trisha shakes her head and smiles at her daughter.

    TRISHA

You know I can’t do anything.

You’ll have to call your father and

    ask him.

Trisha pulls her cell phone from her pocket and begins to

    dial. Adele smiles big.

    ADELE

    Okay.

    INT. MOMENTS LATER

Trisha gives the cell phone to Adele.

    ADELE

Daddy... I want something new to

    play with...

Trisha is watching Adele, smiling adoringly.

    ADELE (CONT'D)

I know, but it already smells

funny. And I just don’t like it as

much as I thought I would... I want

    a girl toy.

Trisha shakes her head and looks behind Adele. Adele begins

    to smile, excited.

    ADELE (CONT'D)

Okay... I will. I promise. Love

    you. Bye.

Trisha looks at Adele as she closes the cell phone and hands

    it back to her.

    TRISHA

    So? What did he say?

    ADELE

He is going to bring me a girl toy

    home tonight.

Trisha smiles. Then looks behind Adele again.

    TRISHA

Okay. But I want you to clean up

that mess. Do you want to keep any

    of that?

    Adele shakes her head no.

    TRISHA (CONT'D)

Then collect all the pieces and put

them in a pile and I will take of

it later. I gotta run downstairs

    and start some laundry now.

Trisha reaches over and caresses her daughters head. Adele is still smiling.

    ADELE

    Okay, Mommy. Love you.

    TRISHA

    Love you too, baby.

    INT. ADELE’S BEDRROOM - LATER

Adele is again sitting at the little table. It is cleared of

dolls, stuffed animals and play tea sets. Now there is only a

stethoscope and a small box on the table.

Behind Adele, her bed is lumpy and covered with an old, thick

blanket. The blanket seems very out of place in this room.

    FRANNIE (O.C.)

Wow, you really have a lot of toys

    and stuff here.

    DR. BLOCH (O.C.)

Oh yes, we do spoil her a bit but

we firmly believe in developing a

    child’s mind. So almost everything

we have is for her edutainment.

The door opens and Adele’s Father, Dr. Robert Bloch, still

dressed in his lab coat and carrying a small box, walks in.

He is followed by a young lady wearing hospital scrubs.

    DR. BLOCH (CONT'D)

Hey baby. I got you something.

Dr. Bloch still holding the small box, gestures beside him to

    the woman.

    DR. BLOCH (CONT'D)

This is Frannie. She is one of the

    interns at the hospital.

Adele looks up at FRANNIE and smiles.

    DR. BLOCH (CONT'D)

    Frannie, this is my daughter.

    Adele.

Frannie approaches the little table and sits across from

    Adele.

    FRANNIE

Hi Adele. It is very nice to meet

    you.

    Adele smiles bigger.

    ADELE

Nice to meet you. You're very

    pretty.

Frannie smiles, blushing a little bit.

    FRANNIE

Thank you. You really are as sweet

    as your daddy says.

Frannie looks down at the stethoscope on the table and

reaches toward it. Behind her Dr. Bloch is opening the small

    box.

    FRANNIE (CONT'D)

So is this just a toy or do you

want to be a doctor when you grow

    up?

Behind Frannie, Dr. Bloch has removed a small bottle and a

    cloth from the box.

    ADELE

Oh, Yes Mam, I do want to be a

    doctor when I grow up.

    FRANNIE

    Just like your Daddy?

Behind Frannie, Dr. Bloch is pouring some of the liquid from

    the bottle into the rag.

    ADELE
    Yes, Just like my daddy.

Dr. Bloch reaches around Frannie’s neck and presses the

cloth against her mouth. Frannie begins to struggle. Trisha

walks in and proceeds toward the bed.

    ADELE (CONT'D)
I want to be a Doctor, a Pathologist. A Forensic Pathologist.

Trisha takes the blanket off the bed, revealing the cut up

corpse of a young man. Trisha spreads the blanket on the

floor beside Frannie. Frannie passes out and falls to the floor

    landing on the blanket.

    ADELE (CONT'D)

And that takes a lot of practice.

Adele looks up at her father, smiling big.

    ADELE (CONT'D)

    Thank you, Daddy.

    DR. BLOCH

    Your welcome. Love you bug.

    ADELE

    Love you too, daddy.

    FADE OUT.
