Post-graduation, New Year & the Recession

  • Hello, once again and Happy New Year, belated I know. I did make it to graduating, a very relieving feeling after a pretty tough '08, so was kind of looking forward to New Year. I did graduate with a job- oh, alright, it was a short term one! I worked as an editor of wedding and property videos at a small production company, but the pay was okay and even though it was weddings mostly, I still enjoyed the job and my bosses were very nice.

I guess good things don't really ever last. Their weddings season ended and the real estate agency ended their relationship with them (that was the co's big profit earner) so back out looking for something. I have some pretty close calls in television and commercial work. I just missed out on a dream job as an Associate Video Producer- I was the Top 5 candidate out of 300 applicants only to be told that I was still too young! And did I mention the job was in Sydney and I live 1000 k's away and had just graduated? Well, either the candidants fell short of their expectations or I'm actually not half as bad as I thought.

I'm currently looking forward to Rubberoom's Networking Night (Rubberroom's kind of like GINDIE in Texas, except a lot smaller and very writer focused, or so it seemed from the Christmas Party, though I had an awesome time!), which is on March 4th and a friend's 21st Birthday Masquerade.

Anyway, I guess that sums it all up. Don't be afraid to say hello from across the pond once in a while.

    Sarah
