2010 ushered in a brand-new website dedicated to the country’s premier Historical Production Services alliance (http://www.historicalfilmpros.com), headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. The organization had a busy 2009 and for the past several years, the crew has been integral to award-winning documentaries, television programs, museum installations projects and motion pictures throughout North America and Europe.
This group of dedicated “history nerds” brings every turn of the past to life from Ancient and Biblical times… all the way to modern conflicts such as the 1990s Bosnian Civil War and the current War on Terror. Specialties remain the American Revolution era, the American Civil War and the First and Second World Wars.
Recently released nationally on PBS, “For Love of Liberty” tells the story of African-Americans in the armed forces of the United States from the Revolution to Iraq. The principals with Historical Production Services directed and produced all of the live-action re-enactments featured in this epic 4-hour documentary hosted by Halle Berry.
The tight-knit production staff with Historical Production Services has a combined 200 years of re-enacting and museum-field experience in a variety of time periods -- coupled with more than 100 years of full-time production history which informs everything they do.
This “history geek squad” partners with productions of every size to serve the Director’s vision, while maintaining historical integrity in every scene, and equipped to bring productions in on budget and on schedule. They work overtime to maximize production value with the most authentically costumed and prepared living historians and actors. The company has a deep cadre of historical look-alikes and living history professionals from around the United States, Canada and Europe.
Historical Production Services provides a complete production crew to help you shoot all of the live-action re-enactments you need; with a crew expertly versed in the individual historical period -- including wardrobe, weapons, assistant directors, art department, special effects and make-up artists, etc. Everything from camera to catering! The group also works as an turn-key independent 2nd Unit, handling everything - just hand them a script and a budget and they get to work.
Upcoming projects for the group include a documentary on the Pirates of the Atlantic in early 1700s America as well as a new docu-drama re-enacting the early years of Hollywood for German/French TV.
