How does VR help society?

I understand that Virtual Reality is a new technology and I understand that it can be used for filmmaking, education, gaming and others. I have a simple question that I haven't found the answer to and that might help me in creating my first movie in VR: how does VR help society?

This might even be one of the first topics that I might address in my first short film.

In the same way that video cameras, microphones or a laptop help society. It is a new technology that can be used to make our lives easier and more enjoyable. For us, filmmakers, it allows to get even more creative with our films.
