It is refreshing to hear someone refer to Philosophy in these times. What I am attempting to do now is out of internal necessity. My work with Ralph began as a short, about the construction of sweat lodge. It has transformed now and has a life of its own, like a painting. I am not 100% sure where I am going with all this but my focus has never been sharper in my whole life. I don't really consider myself as a spiritual person, more of a pragmatist. However, I have witnessed myself as well as others being transfigured by nature. I sense that there are other dimensions, deeper meanings here as well. The Old cultures know about this, the rest of the world has forgotten. less

Yours will be the eye behind the lens so, interpret whatever you see as intimately as possible.
Let nothing get in your way.
Shape your visual footage in a way that makes you honest and true to yourself and the people you are representing.
If you have any hesitations or disbelief...reveal that as part of your expedition into this old culture but, your camera must reveal that for you.
Connect as fiercely as you can to every word and motion as you have already been doing in this short film

I not sure if you know or not but I have a background in the visual arts. there is a video artist named bill viola who has helped shaped how I see things. He has this wonderful way of subtly distorting the perceptual qualities in his work. For instance he may temporally separate the video of a jet traveling across the screen from its audio. He does this to put the viewer initially into into a state of confusion; that confusion is transfigured by a variety of elements and principles into a deeper perceptual awareness of works inner message. I am not criticizing how other documentations work but it seems to me that most documentaries I have seen in my life are 90% intellectual and that Ok its just not where I want to go. I would like the viewer to feel and be inspired by the message in my work. Does that sound too much like being a teacher LOL cuz thats what I do for a living ... cant seem to shake that. Working with this Media is an amazing thing. You have your... less

People often think that it's only good if it's been done with an abundance of difficulty but, if you can complete a project with great strength from within and the effort feels perfectly executed and finished at the right moment...then, you have a work of art that is truly yours to be proud of and ours to enjoy less
