Mondermoni Trip 2010 - Part1 : Enroute and On the Beach

Posted by Pushpasis Sarkar
Last year(2010) mid-October, me and family went to Mondermoni. I had pre-planned the trip expecting great shots from it. Though everything did not go as planned, still I managed to get some good shots.

Mondermoni (also spelled as Mandarmani or Mandermani) is a fast developing seaside resort village in the state of West Bengal, India. It lies in East Midnapore district and at the northern end of the Bay of Bengal. Mandarmani is connected to Kolkata/Howrah by a highway. It is about 4-6 hrs of drive from Kolkata.

Mondermani boasts of a 13 km long motorable beach, probably the longest motorable beach road in India. This is a drive-in beach. It is argued to be the longest driveable beach in India.

During the monsoons the on-beach roads are only available for use from early hours of the day to 9.00 a.m, after which the tides comes in. The tides recedes back around 3 p.m only to come back at 11 p.m. It is an amazing experience. As per the locals, during winter the shoreline recedes moves back as far as 2-3 km from the first nearest habitation.

Mondermoni is an ideal place to relax, far away from the hustle and bustle of Kolkata. The sunrise and sunset are a treat to the eyes. The peaceful atmosphere brings a sense of relief to one's soul.

This is the first part of a two part series I have planned for this trip. The second part will showcase a little bit of the people and wildlife of the place and will also have a bit of our experience at the 'Ecovilla Resort' there. Please lookout for the second part of this video which should be out within next 2-3 weeks.
