The Life of A Filmmaker Wanna Be (Creative Block)

  • Hi, Student Filmmakers. Welcome to the Tribe, I hope you are doing well and staying safe out in the World.

Today is the 11th of April, 2021. I shot a Music Video for a Local Artist (Tiego Laz) on the 15th of March, 2021. It was a project that was meant to be easy and straight forward; from the planning, production and editing. All the processes went as planned, except for the editing. Because of my procrastination and creative block.

At first: it was because I was not in the right space of mind, then there was the constant shift of workloads and then I went on to work on other projects instead. That went on for 3 weeks straight, until I gathered my energy to start sorting the footage. 12 hours later; I was done with the rough cut. I had all the creativity to finalize the project, before the end of the week.

My point here is that when you feel like you do not have the creativity to start a project or an edit (Creative Block) , just work on it for 15 - 30 Minutes. If you are still lazy to complete the project after that, maybe you have to change the projects you are involve yourself in. Because they might be the ones taking up your energy.

That is all I have for the week. All in all I had a lot of fun with this project. Please share what you are working on in the comments, also include your own creative block stories and how you overcame them.

Until Next Time. Xitsundzuxo Himina, Signing Out...
